- What should I look for when buying a Trampoline?
A High Quality Frame
One of the most important aspects of your purchasing decision should be to ensure that the trampoline for sale has a high quality frame. The gauge of steel and the quality of the connections between the pipes are the most important things to look out for.
Gauge of Steel
The gauge represents the thickness of the metal in question. The smaller the gauge gets, the thicker the metal gets. Always look for the lowest number - this indicates that it has thicker steel! Most trampolines on the market have a 17 or 16 gauge, while Smyths offers a 12 and 15 gauge depending on the size of the trampoline (please refer to our specifications page). For example:
- 15 Gauge = 1.449mm (This is the gauge of our 6ft, 8ft, 10ft and 13ft Trampolines)
- 18 Gauge = 1.0mm (This is the gauge of our 55inch Trampoline)
Connections between pipes
Trampolines with welded metal are often hazardous and should be avoided. Our trampolines now feature a patented T-section joint which completely eliminates welding from the design. Fitting inside the leg of the trampoline design, the T-section will not rust as it is galvanised on both sides.
A Thick Trampoline Pad
Make sure that it's thick enough so you don't feel the trampoline frame underneath. Experts recommend that your trampoline pads be at least .5" to 1" thick. Thick pads are well worth the extra cost; do not settle for anything less! Accidents and injuries can and do occur from hitting the spring or frame. Smyths' trampolines have padding that ranges from .75 to 1 thick depending on the size of the trampoline (please refer to our specifications page.
High Quality Springs
It's not just the length and the trampoline spring count that gives you the best bounce. It's the resiliency (the recoil) of the spring. All of our trampoline springs have a resiliency that is designed for a fantastic bounce.
A Good Trampoline Mat
All of our mats are highly robust and made in the USA.
A Safety Enclosure That Fits Outside The Perimeter of the Trampoline
Unlike most trampolines, our enclosures are designed to fit outside of the trampoline's perimeter and won't take up any extra play space. This is why we advertise our trampolines as having 64% more play space than our competitors, as they feature the safety enclosure just inside the perimeter of the mat.
- What are the main safety precautions that should be taken when using the trampoline?
-
A safety enclosure must be used at all times. Using a safety enclosure will prevent the bouncer accidentally falling off the trampoline or jumping off when dismounting. Without the trampoline enclosure, any adult supervising is not going to have time to run around the outside of the trampoline to catch a child falling off the opposite side. Smyths Toys has a strict policy that a safety enclosure must be bought with every trampoline to ensure the safety of our customers.
Only one person may use the trampoline at a time.
Only use the trampoline under adult supervision.
Never attempt somersaults, this can lead to serious neck injury.
Inspect the trampoline before each use. Make sure the padding is correctly and securely positioned. Replace any worn, defective or missing parts.
- What trampoline accessories are available at Smyths Toys to increase the safety of the trampoline users?
Trampoline Ladders
Since the trampoline mat is raised off the ground, there is a risk of falling when exiting the trampoline improperly. Trampoline ladders are available for sale separately to guard against this. They also help smaller users to gain entry safely rather than by climbing up.
Safety Skirts
These prevent anyone or anything from going under the trampoline while in use and also provide handy storage pockets for shoes and any other loose items.
Tie Down Kits
These are advised to in order to secure the trampoline during play.
- Are your trampolines easy to assemble?
Yes. It is advisable for two people to carryout installation due to the bulky nature of the components. Allow about 20 minutes to read the instructions, 20 minutes to erect the trampoline and about 20 minutes to attach the safety enclosure. Don't forget to use the included spring clip tool as it will save plenty of time, struggling and blisters.
- Do I need to pack my trampoline set away in the winter?
We would recommend if you can you should pack it away. If this is not an option the trampoline is designed to be durable and can be left out all year round. However, it is advisable to remove the safety enclosure during the bad weather months and tie down the trampoline for extra security.
- What weight will each trampoline take?
Each of our trampolines has been tested and is certificated and suitable for a total user weight of 100kg (approximately 16 stone). Always investigate this before purchasing a trampoline; you will see that Smyths' trampolines have a higher user weight to other trampolines on the market.
- What are the physical benefits from using a trampoline?
Aside from being plenty of fun, using a trampoline also has some seriously beneficial health advantages for the whole family!
Cardiovascular Exercise
The aerobics associated with jumping on a fitness trampoline strengthens the heart in the same way as other cardio exercises like running and jumping rope. This increase in cardio rate encourages energy use and weight loss. Spending five to eight minutes doing trampoline exercise is like running a mile, only with less time, effort and strain on joints.
Muscle Tone and Cellulite Prevention
Trampoline exercise tones muscles in the lower half of the body. The legs, thighs, hips, stomach, and abdomen are all used when exercising on a fitness trampoline. Cellulite is caused by a build-up of fatty deposits. Jumping up and down on a trampoline can pump these fatty deposits out of the lymphatic nodes, ridding your body of cellulite. In approximately two weeks, you should notice that your legs, buttocks and ankles are becoming toned and those cellulite deposits are smoothing out.
Reducing the Risk of Osteoporosis
Recent studies have shown that weight-bearing exercises practiced in childhood and adolescence significantly increase bone mass, reducing the risk of osteoporosis later in life.
- Do your trampolines have safety certificates?
Yes. All of our trampolines hold GS/RWTUV certification, and have been cadmium tested and conform to the relevant standard EN71.
- What warranty is included?
The framework is covered by a five year warranty against failure due to rust or defect. This does not include the springs. The warranty does not cover damage due to misuse or by not following the manufacturer's usage instructions.
- Do you sell spare parts?
